Three Must-Visit Places in Belgium

Judge Diane Ritchie

Now retired, Judge Diane Ritchie holds a Juris Doctorate from Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco, California, and presided over thousands of criminal and civil cases in the Superior Court of California County of Santa Clara. Passionate about travel, Judge Diane Ritchie has been fortunate enough to travel to many international destinations, including the small but beautiful country of Belgium.

Here are three places not to miss in this historic nation:

1. Dinant. Sitting along the gorgeous Meuse River, this city is home to some of Europe's largest caves, open to visitors to explore, and filled with local flora and fauna. The landmark of the city is the Collegiate Church of Notre Dame.

2. Ardennes. For those who enjoy the outdoors, the Ardennes feature plenty of opportunities to hike, bike and camp. Covered in forests and scenic cliffs, they are home to friendly villages, an abundance of castles, and lots of wildlife, including deer and lynx.
3. Bruges. This city is home to the Basilica of the Holy Blood, one of the more architecturally impressive sites in Europe, with a blend of Roman and Gothic styles. It also contains a vial said to contain a small amount of the blood of Jesus, brought there after the Second Crusade.
